JAKARTA - The traffic situation during the H+4 Lebaran return period on the Cipali Toll Road was observed to begin to subside despite the density at several points.

The volume of vehicles this morning from both directions decreased by 31 percent compared to yesterday.

This morning, the vehicle traffic per hour reached 2,700 vehicles.

Sustainability Management & Corporate Communications Dept Head Astra Tol Cipali, Ardam Rafif Trisilo said, based on data from 00.00 to 08.00 WIB, it was recorded that around 21,000 vehicles passed through the Cipali Toll Road to Jakarta.

"This figure is 31 percent lower than the same period yesterday, with an average volume of 2,700 vehicles per hour," Ardam said in a written statement, Thursday, March 26.

Meanwhile, a total of 5,000 vehicles crossed the former Cikopo Toll Gate (GT) towards Cirebon.

"Cumulatively, the morning traffic volume was observed to be 27 percent lower than the previous day," he said.

Even though the volume of vehicles decreased, traffic flow at several points slowed down, especially on the B lane towards Jakarta.

"The main cause of the slowdown in the field was identified as a result of the increasing number of vehicles that stopped on the shoulder of the road, both due to engine failure and driver fatigue," he said.

The large number of vehicles that stopped on the shoulder of the road was caused by drivers being exhausted during the trip to Jakarta.

"The physical fatigue of travelers on the long journey from the east to Jakarta caused many drivers to decide to rest on the side of the road or at the rest area upon arrival at the Cipali Toll Road," he said.

In order to maintain comfort and smooth traffic flow, Astra Tol Cipali together with the regional police implemented a situational opening-closing system at all rest areas of the Cipali Toll Road.

The system includes KM 86, 102, 130, and 166 (Cirebon direction) and KM 164, 130, 101 and 77 (Jakarta direction).

"If the rest area is observed to be full, road users are strongly advised not to stop on the side of the road or force themselves to line up in the main lane before entering the rest area because it can trigger a wider slowdown in traffic," he explained.

As an alternative, road users can rest by using rest areas outside the nearest toll gate.

"We guarantee that the total accumulated toll rate will remain the same (based on the distance traveled) even though road users enter and exit the toll gate to rest for a moment outside the toll road," he said.

Road users are also urged to remain vigilant, maintain safe distances between vehicles and ensure that their physical condition and vehicles are in good condition before starting their journey.
