JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI recorded the return phase of the 2026 Lebaran Transportation reaching its peak with a significant increase in customer volume.

Train mode is increasingly becoming a choice for the public because it offers certainty of travel time in the midst of high mobility after Eid al-Fitr.

In four consecutive days, KAI recorded the highest customer volume during the Lebaran period with an occupancy rate exceeding 140 percent.

On March 22, 242,810 customers (150.7 percent) were recorded, increasing on March 23 to 247,025 customers (154.1 percent), then reaching a peak on March 24 with 250,650 customers (153.4 percent), and remained high on March 25 with 230,784 customers (141.2 percent).

This achievement surpassed the previous year's highest daily volume record of 223,348 Long Distance Train customers.

The surge reflects a strong and more even reversal, as people's travel patterns return to their home cities after Lebaran.

As of March 26, 2026 at 10.00 WIB, ticket sales for the Lebaran Transportation had reached 4,479,481 or 99.6 percent of the total capacity of 4,498,696 seats.

This high figure shows the public's increasing trust in train services.

KAI's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, said the trend reflected the changing travel behavior of the community which was increasingly planned.

"Train travel has continued to increase since mid-March and is now entering the reverse flow phase. Trains are a convenient, scheduled, and reliable option," Anne said in an official statement, Thursday, March 26.

In detail, the sale of long-distance train tickets has reached 3,809,761 or 106.7 percent of the total capacity of 3,571,760 seats.

Meanwhile, Local KA recorded sales of 669,720 tickets or 72.3 percent of the total capacity of 926,936 seats, with the availability of seats that can still be used on a number of relationships.

During the period from March 11 to 25, 2026, KAI served 3,407,548 customers on Java and Sumatra, consisting of 2,859,152 long-distance train customers and 548,396 local train customers.

This volume shows the mobility of the community which continues to grow and spread in various regions.

Entering March 26, 2026, the trend of reverse flow continues. Until the morning, as many as 196,401 Long Distance Railway customers have been scheduled to depart with a temporary occupancy reaching 120.2 percent, and the number is still potentially increasing.

KAI appeals to the public to take advantage of alternative travel by choosing a different departure date and relationship.

In addition, KAI also presents a Silaturahmi Promo in the form of a 20 percent discount on executive class tickets which is valid from March 25 to April 1, 2026.

Anne explained that the occupancy rate of more than 100 percent is common in long-distance train operations.

"In one trip, one seat can be used by more than one customer on a different relationship. This scheme makes the number of customers served can exceed the capacity of available seats," he explained.

Several trains with high booking rates during the Lebaran period include the Airlangga Train, Joglosemarkerto Train, Sri Tanjung Train, Bengawan Train, Kahuripan Train, Rajabasa Train, and Jayakarta Train.

"With the capacity that is still available, the public can plan the return trip more flexibly so that the trip remains comfortable and smooth with the train," concluded Anne.
