JAKARTA - Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning Maruarar Sirait said that the government is preparing a draft law (RUU) on housing, which includes, among other things, regulating the provision of land and financing housing for the community.

"Pak Hashim has agreed to all of them and we announce that we are ready to make the Housing Bill. Please pray for all of us," he said in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, March 11, referring to the Chairman of the Housing Task Force and Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Hashim Djojohadikusumo.

The minister, who is usually called Ara, said that the draft law prepared to support the resolution of various issues in the housing sector would include arrangements for land and financing.

"We will arrange everything. Regarding land, financing, all sorts of things, we will discuss it there," he said.

Ara stated that the government would work quickly in preparing draft regulations on housing in order to provide certainty for all stakeholders in the national housing ecosystem.

He is optimistic that the completion and discussion of the regulation can run smoothly with the support of the House of Representatives (DPR), especially Commission V which deals with infrastructure and housing.

"I am optimistic that this law can be made, and hopefully in the future it will be fair and just for the benefit of the Indonesian people," he said.

Ara said that the government is trying to strengthen the national housing ecosystem and accelerate the provision of housing for the community.

"We must be compact and united because I believe there is no super man, there is a super team," he said.

The government has increased the quota for subsidized houses from around 220 thousand units to 350 thousand units per year to increase access for low-income people to own housing.

The subsidized housing financing program through the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP) scheme also maintains a fixed interest rate of around 5 percent and extends the home ownership loan tenor to 30 years to make it easier for people to pay installments for home ownership.

Business actors have put forward the need for a housing law to harmonize various regulations at the central and regional levels.

"So the regulations are centralized, so that entrepreneurs or low-income people will not be confused about running their businesses and choosing their residences," said Angga Budi Kusuma, Director of the Pesona Kahuripan Group as a developer of subsidized houses.

According to him, the difference in licensing rules in various regions often becomes an obstacle in housing development efforts.

"With the existence of this Housing Bill, hopefully it will strengthen the centralized rules," he said.
