Responding to the increasing distribution needs of the national consumer industry sector, PT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistik) took a strategic step by increasing container carrying capacity on the KALOG Plus service, especially the KALOG 3 train series. This policy is part of the company's efforts to maintain supply resilience and encourage efficient distribution of goods, especially for the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector.

Director of Commercial KAI Logistics, Fahdel Akbar, said that the company saw a growing trend in container transport demand, especially from FMCG and manufacturing industry players.

"Therefore, since February 20, 2026, we have increased the frequency of travel on the KALOG 3 train series from twice per week to six times per week. With this addition, the carrying capacity has increased by about 67 percent, from 1,800 TEUs per month to 3,000 TEUs per month," said Fahdel, in a statement, Sunday, March 8.

He explained that this capacity adjustment is part of the company's strategy in strengthening the role of the railway mode in the middle mile segment of the national supply chain.

"This service improvement is not only to accommodate the increase in volume, but also to ensure consistency of schedules and service certainty for customers. We want to provide a more reliable, fast, and competitive logistics solution for the industry," he added.

KAI Logistics internal data notes that throughout 2025 the company recorded a growth in container transport volume of around 8 percent compared to the previous year. This achievement is in line with the growth of the national economy. This trend is also in line with data according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) on February 5, 2026, which conveyed Indonesia's economy in 2025 which grew 5.11 percent, higher than the achievement in 2024. This reflects the increasing production and distribution activities, including in the consumer goods sector.

The increase in consumption is also reflected in the latest data from Compas.co.id which was presented by Hanindia Narendrata, Co-Founder and CEO of Compas, who said that the value of FMCG transactions on digital platforms jumped by 168.7 percent in the period 2022-2025, moving from Rp. 48 trillion to Rp. 129 trillion.

The dynamics of this increasingly high movement of goods are one of the driving factors for the optimization of distribution services, including through capacity strengthening on the KALOG 3 train series. This service specifically serves the strategic route Jakarta (Sungai Lagoa) - Surabaya (Kalimas), with a transit point in Karawang (Klari). The presence of this transit point is a response to the increasing customer needs in the Klari industrial area, which are mostly in the FMCG sector.

"With the container carrying capacity that we have increased, we hope to become a strategic partner for FMCG companies and other consumer industries in facilitating the delivery of goods in a more optimal, consistent, and timely manner," concluded Fahdel.

In addition to increasing distribution efficiency, the use of rail modes is also a safer, reliable, and sustainable transportation solution. Through the concept of green logistics, rail-based transportation contributes to reducing carbon emissions and traffic loads on land routes, in line with KAI Logistics' commitment to supporting a more environmentally friendly national logistics system.
