JAKARTA - The development of the Red and White Fishermen Village (KNMP) Pujiharjo on the south coast of Malang Regency, East Java, still leaves a number of notes.
This was revealed after the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono directly reviewed the KNMP Pujiharjo today.
Trenggono said that a number of notes ranged from leveling the flow of ships due to sedimentation to repairing the road infrastructure leading to the coastal area.
He said that dredging would be carried out by the Directorate General of Capture Fisheries KKP so that access to ships would be safer and smoother.
"I see that the sedimentation is high, later I will ask the Director General of Capture to be dismantled, dredged, yes," said Trenggono as quoted from a written statement, Wednesday, March 4.
Meanwhile, for the problem of road infrastructure leading to the coastal area, Trenggono said, his party would coordinate with other stakeholders.
"Improvement of road infrastructure to the coastal area is also being sought through coordination with relevant ministries," he said.
Although it still leaves a number of records, the construction of KNMP Pujiharjo is considered as a concrete step by the government in increasing the productivity of fishermen.
The facilities that are now available such as ice factories, frozen warehouses and cold storage are basic needs for local fishermen and part of the government's efforts to strengthen the capture fisheries sector in remote areas.
According to Trenggono, the presence of ice factories and cold storage in the area answers the basic needs of fishermen who have had to travel long distances to get ice supplies.
"Previously, fishermen had to search for ice for three to four hours. Now it's available here, so that operational costs can be suppressed and fish quality is maintained," he explained.
From the results of the review, Trenggono claimed that the fish landing pool and landing area or cold storage had functioned well and were filled with various types of catches such as stingrays, tuna, coconuts and layu. Based on the record, at least 800 ships under 5 Grosstonn (GT) operate in the area.
To support fishermen's operations, continued Trenggono, the government plans to add assistance for boats, boat engines, and fishing gear.
In addition, the KKP has coordinated with relevant parties to provide a Fishing Fuel Filling Station (SPBN) in the area.
"Fishermen have had to go to Dampit for about two hours to get fuel," he said.
Meanwhile, local fishermen, Adil Pranoto, welcomed the presence of KNMP Pujiharjo.
According to him, the existence of an ice factory at KNMP has greatly helped him to store his catch.
"Now it's easier. There's no need to go out of the area to find ice," he said.
With the strengthening of production facilities, logistical support, and plans to add SPBN and dredging the ship channel, KNMP Pujiharjo is expected to become a center of fishing activities that can improve the welfare of fishermen while encouraging marine economic growth on the south coast of Malang.
