JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Patra Niaga (PPN) continues to increase the production of Smooth Fluid (SF).
The product used for oil-based drilling fluid (drilling fluid) mixture is an important component used in the oil and gas drilling process.
PPN Corporate Secretary, Roberth M.V. Dumatubun said, SF production in 2025 was recorded at more than 180,000 barrels. This figure is quite significant when compared to the previous year's production which was at 134,000 barrels.
According to Roberth, this increase of almost 35 percent shows the high demand from the upstream oil and gas industry for SF products produced from domestic refineries.
PPN itself has 3 SF variants, namely SF-02, SF-04 and SF-05. This type of SF variant is intended to meet the needs of drilling that has various characteristics.
"Two variants of SF that are quite popular in 2025 are SF-04 and SF-05. This product is not only to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry, but also in order to realize energy independence. The use of these two products will also increase the rate of Domestic Component (TKDN)," said Roberth, Monday, March 2.
He added that SF-04 is produced at the Cilacap Refinery, while SF-05 is produced at the Balikpapan Refinery and the Dumai Refinery.
According to Roberth, the increase in SF production in 2025 is a positive signal that domestic products are able to compete with similar products from abroad.
Moreover, drilling mud is very important in the drilling process to control pressure from the earth's belly, lubricate drilling equipment, and maintain well stability.
"The growth in the production of SF-04 and SF-05 shows that domestic products are able to compete with global standards. We will continue to innovate so that SF-04 and SF-05 can become the backbone of the oil and gas industry, as well as supporting sustainable development," said Roberth.

SF-05, continued Roberth, is also safe to use in waters and has proven to support land drilling operations with good lubricity levels.
