JAKARTA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said that the Ramadan cheap market until the eve of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah was integrated with the support of local UMKM products.
"As held in Banyuwangi Saturday (28/2) yesterday, with this intervention it is hoped to be a convergence between price stabilization, strengthening food security, and local economic empowerment during Ramadan," said Khofifah as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, March 1.
Khofifah said the East Java Provincial Government held a rotating cheap market in all districts/cities in East Java to stabilize prices and control inflation during the momentum of Ramadan and before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.
According to him, the cheap market activity is not only a strategy for stabilizing prices and controlling inflation ahead of Eid al-Fitr, but also ensuring that household logistics needs remain affordable.
The activity of the cheap market location in Banyuwangi, he continued, was deliberately placed in the residential area of the residents and was not adjacent to the traditional market so as not to interfere with the activities of traders.
Khofifah said she did not want the implementation of cheap markets to be adjacent to traditional markets, because the cheap market was not a competitor to the traditional market.
"The location of the cheap market is closer to the residential community so that the affordability is more optimal," he said.
Furthermore, he said, in the momentum of Ramadan until approaching Eid al-Fitr is synonymous with an increase in household logistics needs.
Therefore, cheap market intervention is an important step so that the community can still meet their needs at affordable prices.
"Especially in the month of Ramadan approaching Eid al-Fitr like now, the needs of each family tend to increase, so we hope that this cheap market can bring down the price reach to meet the needs of household logistics," said Khofifah.
