JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) officially started the construction of the Tahap II People's School in Central Java Province. The education infrastructure project is spread over 11 locations whose implementation area is categorized into two clusters, namely Central Java 1 and Central Java 2.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo explained that Central Java 1 includes development in Banyumas, Cilacap, Brebes, Wonosobo and Temanggung regencies.

Meanwhile, for the Central Java 2 area, there are six points located in Jepara Regency, Pati, Rembang, Sragen, Sukoharjo and Semarang City.

"We ensure that the People's School education facilities are built quickly, correctly and with quality so that they can be immediately used by the community," said Dody, quoted from an official statement, Wednesday, February 18.

Regarding the technical implementation, Dody highlighted the access construction constraints in Brebes Regency which is located near the Pemali River and the Brebes Highway. In line with this, the government is currently studying the plan to build an emergency bridge (bailey) to mobilize building materials to the school location so that the target for completion is not hampered.

Meanwhile, the initial work in Brebes is now only entering the land striping and heavy equipment mobilization phase, where the continuation of the physical construction of the building is still awaiting a final decision regarding the provision of emergency bridge access as the main logistics route of the project.

Based on the physical progress data for the 11th week or the period from February 2-8, 2026, the realization of the construction of the People's School in Central Java 1 has only reached 2.717 percent.

For Central Java 2, the progress was recorded slightly higher at 6.337 percent, with the highest achievement being in Temanggung Regency which touched 30.05 percent.

"The second phase of the People's School was built permanently on land of 5-10 hectares prepared by the local government," he said.

To note, nationally, the Phase II People's School project covers 104 locations in 32 provinces and 102 regencies/cities.

The program targets a total capacity of 112,320 students divided into 3,744 study groups to support the equitable distribution of human resources in Indonesia.
