JAKARTA - PT Industri Jamu Dan Farmasi Sido Muncul Tbk (SIDO) has managed to attract the attention of international academics from China thanks to the modernization of the traditional medicine industry implemented by the Tolak Angin producer. In fact, a professor from China plans to invite his country's herbal industry players to learn directly in Indonesia.

This was conveyed by Sido Muncul Director Irwan Hidayat in front of students of the Faculty of Traditional Medicine of the Health Polytechnic (Poltekkes) Surakarta in an international seminar held at the Balai Krida Poltekkes Surakarta, on Wednesday, February 11.

Irwan shared his views on strategies to build a strong and globally competitive herbal medicine industry.

"I taught that herbal medicine must be developed well and must believe that our nature is richer and must be processed seriously. And believe in yourself," said Irwan.

He then recounted the visit of Professor Yoseph Jie Yu from the University of Nottingham Business School China to the Sido Muncul factory. According to Irwan, the professor was surprised to see the modern and integrated herbal processing facilities.

"I give an example from Professor Yoseph Yu from Nottingham University who, after seeing the Sido Muncul factory, said that Chinese herbal companies should learn from Sido Muncul. Yes, the point is to learn from Indonesia because there are mostly small factories, traditional factories. We must be confident, we are better, don't let ourselves feel inferior," he said.

Irwan also advised students to be able to utilize Indonesia's abundant natural wealth to become nutritious herbal products with high economic value.

"The natural wealth that God has given must have a purpose to be processed, so this Poltekkes is one of the schools that I think is suitable if there are high school students who want to study, this place is the right major target to process our natural resources into medicine," he said.
