SIDOARJO - The government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening regional infrastructure through regional road and irrigation investment schemes (IJD) to encourage community economic productivity, especially the agricultural sector.

Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo said that the construction of the IJD project is currently 100 percent complete and directed to really provide direct benefits to the region.

"IJD is basically a regional effort that we support because of the limitations on infrastructure funding at the regional level. The central government is present in accordance with the President's instructions to meet the needs of regional infrastructure," Dody Hanggodo told reporters, Saturday, February 7.

He explained that regional road investment has been running for three to four years and now has a more mature, closed system, and is supervised by law enforcement officers.

Meanwhile, irrigation investment in the region is relatively new, so it requires improvement in planning technology.

"For irrigation of the area, the system is still being cleaned up. The determination of points, needs, and annual plans must be very clear. But in general, this investment is underway," he said.

According to him, road and irrigation improvements will reduce farmers' operating costs, facilitate the distribution of crops, and have a positive impact on the farmers' exchange rate (NTP).

"If the road is smoother and irrigation is smooth, the cost of planting and distribution will decrease. In the end, the exchange rate of farmers will rise. The impact may not be very large, but it still exists," he explained.

The government also encourages the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) to include the impact of road and regional irrigation investments in the calculation of the NTP in the future.
