JAKARTA - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) continues to strengthen its role in Sorong through the provision of reliable crossing services, to ensure that inter-island connectivity is maintained and the community's economic activities can continue to move.
In the area of the South West Papua Islands, the sea is not just a landscape, but a lifeline that connects families, trade, education, and health services. In the context of the 3T area (Lagging, Outermost, and Leading), crossing connectivity is the pulse of community mobility.
ASDP President Director, Heru Widodo, emphasized that the operation of the ship from the Klademak Port in Sorong City and the Arar Port in Sorong Regency is a manifestation of the company's commitment to maintaining the continuity of regional connectivity.
"The crossing service is not only to move passengers and vehicles, but to become a bridge of hope for the community to remain connected to the center of economic activity, education, and public services," said Heru in an official statement, Monday, February 2.
According to Heru, the maintained connectivity will strengthen regional integration and have a direct impact on the social and economic growth of South West Papua.
Currently, ASDP Sorong Branch operates 18 crossing lanes served by four fleets, namely KMP Kurisi, KMP Terubuk I, KMP Arar, and KMP Kalabia. This operation is designed to ensure that the mobility of the island community continues to run smoothly throughout the year.
From January to December 2025, the ASDP crossing service in Sorong has served more than 64,000 passengers and around 12,000 vehicles. The high number reflects the community's dependence on crossing modes, both for family travel and the distribution of basic necessities.
Meanwhile, ASDP Sorong Branch General Manager Eko Yulianto said ASDP's role is also vital in maintaining the smooth distribution of inter-island logistics.
"During 2025, ASDP has transported about three thousand cargo loads, ranging from sugar, soy sauce, instant noodles, to other basic foodstuffs, so that the supply of basic needs of the island community is maintained," said Eko.
In addition to supporting citizen mobility, the Sorong crossing also serves as the main gateway to Raja Ampat, a world-class tourist destination known for the beauty of Wayag, Manta Sandy, and Kali Biru, as well as various marine tourism activities such as snorkeling, diving, island hopping, and birdwatching.
ASDP currently serves a number of strategic routes to the area, including Sorong-Waisai, Sorong-Waigeo, Sorong-Kalobo, Wejim-Kofiau, Arefi-Pam, and Gag-Gebe. Since October 2025, the new Foley-Waigama route has also been operated to strengthen community access while supporting the tourism sector.
As an inter-island link, ASDP emphasized its commitment to provide safe, reliable, and sustainable crossing services, to maintain connectivity for the 3T region, to open economic opportunities, and to bring new hope to the people of South West Papua.
