JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) recorded national electricity consumption growth throughout 2025.

Meanwhile, electricity sales in 2025 reached 317.69 terawatt hours (TWh) or grew 3.75 percent year on year (yoy compared to 2024 which was 306.22 TWh.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that this increase in national electricity consumption is inseparable from the support of the Government and cross-agency synergy in strengthening the resilience of the electricity sector in the midst of geopolitical dynamics and global economic uncertainty.

"We appreciate the Government's support in strengthening the national electricity ecosystem. Sustainable policies are an important foundation for maintaining the reliability of electricity supply, improving service quality, and encouraging economic growth," said Darmawan, Monday, February 2.

PLN's Retail and Commercial Director, Adi Priyanto, explained that the growth in electricity consumption in 2025 was driven by the increasing electricity demand in various sectors as industrial, business, and community activities strengthened.

"The growth in electricity consumption throughout 2025 is supported by the household, industrial, and business segments which are the largest contributors. This shows that electricity is increasingly playing a major role as a key enabler of economic activity and national productivity," explained Adi.

PLN noted that the household sector was the largest contributor to national electricity consumption, with a target of 133.41 TWh in 2025.

This amount grew by 3.2 percent y/y or 4.09 TWh compared to the same period last year, and accounted for around 41.99 percent of the total national electricity sales.

Electricity consumption in the industrial sector reached 93.35 TWh, growing by 2.5 percent year-on-year or equivalent to 2.31 TWh.

This growth was driven by the food and beverage industry, iron, steel and metals, and non-metallic minerals.

Meanwhile, electricity consumption in the business sector reached 60.74 TWh. This figure grew by 3.11 TWh or 5.4 percent year-on-year, driven by growth in electricity demand in the data center, mall or shopping center, non-automotive trade, and warehousing and logistics sectors.

Adi added that the increase in national electricity consumption was also accompanied by the addition of 3.29 million new customers.

Until December 2025, PLN recorded a total of 96.2 million customers.

This shows that public confidence in PLN continues to grow.

"The growth in the number of customers and electricity consumption in various sectors reflects increasingly massive economic activity. In the future, PLN is committed to continuing to optimize electricity infrastructure and services to meet the growing energy needs," concluded Adi.
