JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) through Sales and Operation Region II (SOR II) Karawang Area, successfully carried out the first Gas In or distribution of natural gas to a new customer PT Contemporary Amperex Technology Indonesia Battery (CATIB) on Tuesday, January 27.
For information, the CATIB production facility, located in the Artha Industrial Hills (AIH) area, Karawang, produces battery cells, modules, and battery packs for electric vehicles (EV).
PGN will distribute natural gas to support the production process reliably and sustainably.
PGN Sales and Operation Region II (SOR II) General Manager Iwan Yuli Widyastanto said that the distribution of gas to the battery industry reflects PGN's active role in supporting the downstream of high-value-added industries as well as being part of the supply chain of the future industry.
"PGN is present as a strategic partner in providing cleaner and more efficient transition energy to support the production process of electric vehicle batteries in Indonesia. The utilization of natural gas allows the industry to continue to grow with the principle of sustainability, because it has a lower emission rate than other fossil energy," said Iwan in a statement to the media, Thursday, January 29.
Meanwhile, PGN Karawang Area Head Wuriana Irawati added that the success of this Gas In is an important achievement for the development of PGN services in the Karawang industrial area.
"We ensure that all distribution processes run according to Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) standards, so that customers can run their operations optimally and safely," explained Wuriana.
Currently, PGN Karawang Area serves 182 customers from various industrial and commercial segments.
The addition of CATIB as a new customer further strengthens PGN's role in supporting the growth of Karawang as one of the national manufacturing and economic centers.
