JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo conveyed the progress of handling post-flood in Sumatra.
Dody explained that his party not only handled infrastructure repairs, but also cleaned mud in various public facilities.
This was conveyed by Dody in a Working Meeting with Commission V of the DPR at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 27.
"We are also involved in cleaning mud in markets, madrasahs, schools, health facilities in several other places, working with the Ministry of Health. Of the 171 locations we have handled, 120 can be functional," said Dody.
In addition, the government has also built temporary housing for disaster victims. It is recorded that as many as 1,200 temporary housing units have been prepared and spread across Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
"Then we were also asked by the Minister of Health to prepare emergency health centers in two places, Southeast Aceh and East Aceh. We target the temporary health centers to be completed no later than before Ramadan or February 15, 2026," he said.
"For permanent health centers, we hope that by the end of 2026 we can complete these two," he continued.
Furthermore, Dody said, the progress of rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructure after the flood had reached about 23 percent. He said, repairing the irrigation network flowing into the rice fields area was a priority.
"Of the total that we have rehabilitated to date, there are almost 23 percent and we target, according to discussions with the Ministry of Agriculture, irrigation to the rice fields that have started to plant, we will prioritize," he explained.
Not only that, there are 13 national dams and about 47 regional dams that are also affected by the disaster. However, said Dody, the progress of handling dams is still limited.
"Our progress is still very little in stopping it, because yesterday we focused on the river. Because in some affected areas, such as South Tapanuli and Tamiang, once it rains, then the flood comes again," he explained.
"So we are more focused on normalizing, sir, on these rivers. So, by dredging, then we use the results of the dredging as a temporary embankment," he continued.
According to Dody, the normalization of the river has now reached 52 percent. He targeted, the normalization of the river will be completed in October 2026.
"But because the rivers that are affected are still very long, our progress per day may only reach 52 percent. The target is by October 2026, we have completed handling approximately 77 national rivers affected and 43 regional rivers affected," he said.
Not stopping there, Dody also proposed the construction of a number of sabo dams and check dams in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra. These infrastructures are targeted to be completed by October 2028.
"Because we see that the upstream destruction is still very large, so we have identified that if the rain is still very heavy in the upstream areas, both Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, sediment in the form of sand and wood is still very likely to fall into downstream areas," he explained.
"Therefore, we propose the construction of several sabo dams and check dams which we target to be completed by October 2028 at the latest," he continued.
Meanwhile, for the handling of 176 drinking water supply systems (SPAM) affected by the disaster, it has now reached around 70 percent.
"We have identified 176 SPAM affected and thank God we have been able to complete almost 70 percent of them. We target that all of them can be functional by no later than February 15, 2026. For permanent, we target it by August 2028," he said.
