Bank Indonesia estimates that retail sales performance in December 2025 will continue to grow.
This is based on the December 2025 Real Sales Index (IPR) which is estimated to grow by 4.4 percent (yoy).
BI Communication Department Executive Director Ramdan Denny said that the performance of retail sales was mainly supported by the growth of the Parts and Accessories, Food, Beverages and Tobacco, Cultural and Recreational Goods, and Motor Fuel groups.
"On a monthly basis, retail sales in December 2025 are estimated to grow by 4.0 percent (mtm), higher than the growth in the previous month of 1.5 percent (mtm)," he said in an official statement, quoted on Monday, January 12.
Denny explained that the increase was driven by the performance of the majority of groups, especially Information and Communication Equipment, Cultural and Recreational Goods, Other Household Equipment, as well as Food, Beverages and Tobacco in line with the increase in public demand during the National Religious Holiday (HBKN) Christmas and New Year.
Meanwhile, in November 2025, IPR grew by 6.3 percent (yoy), higher than the previous month's IPR of 4.3 percent (yoy).
He said that this growth was mainly supported by an increase in sales of the Parts and Accessories, Food, Beverage and Tobacco, and Cultural and Recreational Goods groups.
On a monthly basis, retail sales in November 2025 grew by 1.5 percent (mtm), supported by an increase in sales of the Information and Communication Equipment Group, Motor Vehicle Fuel, Spare Parts and Accessories, as well as Food, Beverages and Tobacco due to increased community demand ahead of the Christmas and New Year HBKN holiday period.
In terms of price, according to him, the pressure of inflation in the next three months, namely February 2026, is expected to increase, while in the next six months, namely May 2026, it is expected to decrease.
"This is reflected in the February 2026 General Price Expectation Index (IEH) which was recorded at 168.6, higher than 163.2 in the previous period driven by expectations of price increases ahead of the 1447 H Ramadan period," he explained.
Meanwhile, he added, the May 2026 IEH was recorded at 154.5, lower than the previous period of 161.7.
