Four Points in Aceh Tamiang Ready to Be Built Baku Water Boreholes After the Flood

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has intensified the construction of raw water boreholes to meet the community's clean water needs in Aceh Tamiang Regency after the Sumatra flash flood at the end of November 2025.

Currently, at least four points have been planned to enter the construction preparation stage of the well. The four points include Meurandeh Village, the Kuala Simpang Sub-district Office, TK Nurul Ikhlas Banda Mulia and Matang Teupah Village.

"While waiting for the readiness of the logging team, reaming and improving the construction of the well," said Minister PU Dody Hanggodo as quoted from a written statement, Wednesday, January 7.

Dody explained, until January 5, 2026, drilling activities showed significant progress with an average depth of eight drilling units reaching an elevation of 70 to 105 meters.

This is in accordance with the local geological conditions which require a relatively deep target depth, namely 100 to 150 meters.

In Meurandeh Village itself, the drilling process of the pilot hole has reached a depth of 88 meters from the planned 90 meters and is being prepared for the reaming stage as part of the construction of a permanent well.

For the Kuala Simpang Sub-District Office, the drilling has reached a depth of 77 meters from the planned 80 meters. Based on the results of the hydrogeological study, the location has the potential for an aquifer at a depth of 23-35 meters and above 150 meters, so the work will continue gradually to ensure the sustainability of the water source.

Meanwhile, for the Banda Mulia District, drilling at the Al Ikhlas Mosque in Gampong Sukajadi has reached a depth of 72 meters from the target of 100 meters, with the potential aquifer being in the range of 39-78 meters.

As for the Bendahara District, drilling in Matang Teupah Village has reached a pilot hole of 73 meters from the target of 100 meters, with aquifer potential at depths of 39-78 meters and 78-92 meters.

Work at the site is still waiting for the delivery of mud pumps which are in the process of being picked up from Bireuen to Aceh Tamiang.

There are also other points that are currently being worked on drilling raw water boreholes. Among others, Manyak Payed District. The drilling of the bore hole at the Simpang Lhee Mosque has reached a depth of 82 meters and is currently entering the construction phase and has started operating to serve the clean water needs of the surrounding community.

Meanwhile, drilling at TK Nurul Ikhlas Telaga Meuku II, Sidomulyo, has reached a pilot hole of 82 meters from the planned 100 meters and shows aquifer indications at the same depth, so it is projected to enter the construction phase soon.

For Karang Baru District, drilling at the Datok Gampong Menanggini Office has only reached a pilot hole 25 meters deep from the planned 60 meters and is temporarily hampered by damage to the drilling rig gearbox.

At another location, the Darul Mukhlisin Islamic Boarding School has reached a pilot hole 72 meters deep from the target of 100 meters, with several layers of potential aquifers identified at depths of 8-19 meters, 28-39 meters and above 98 meters. Currently, the drilling of a raw water well in the area is waiting for the manufacture of a drill bit to continue the work.

For Bandar Khalifah Village, the drilling process of the pilot hole has reached a depth of 104 meters from the planned 150 meters and will continue to be continued gradually.

To ensure the accuracy of the drilling point and depth, the PU Ministry has carried out geoelectric survey activities at a number of locations, including Gelung Village, Seruway District, Meurandeh Village, Manyak Payed District, Tenggulun District (two locations), Padang Linggis, Pante Cempa, Bandar Khalifah Hulu and Ronggoh.

"In addition, additional geoelectric surveys have also been carried out for several proposed locations, including in Manyak Payed and the District Attorney's Office, as well as the addition of two backup locations as a precautionary measure," added Dody.
