Bank Jakarta has launched a Visa Debit Card as part of its strategic transformation towards a global-oriented regional bank.
Bank Jakarta President Director Agus H Widodo said the cooperation with Visa is an important milestone in the five-year transformation roadmap of Bank Jakarta.
Customers, he continued, can now access a global payment network in more than 200 countries.
"Banks that understand transactions will understand customer needs. That's where trust is built. That's the direction of Bank Jakarta's transformation," Agus told reporters, Monday, January 5.
He explained that Bank Jakarta's transformation is based on three main pillars, namely growth based on the Jakarta ecosystem, strengthening asset quality through the implementation of good corporate governance, and developing digital capabilities and human resources.
The presence of the Visa Debit Card allows all segments of customers, ranging from civil servants (ASN), MSMEs, to professionals, to enjoy international standard transaction services.
Visa Indonesia Country Manager Vira Widiyasari said this debit card opens up opportunities for local business actors to carry out cross-border transactions safely and efficiently. According to him, the global payment system is the key for Jakarta MSMEs to penetrate the export market.
"We want to empower MSMEs to be able to carry out cross-border transactions safely and comfortably, so that they can connect directly with the global market," said Vira.
In addition to supporting the expansion of MSMEs, the integration of banking services with public transportation is also considered to have great economic potential.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung emphasized that trust (trust) is the main foundation in bank management.
The Jakarta Provincial Government, he continued, gives full room to the management of Bank Jakarta to be managed professionally without political intervention.
"What was built first was trust. Banks owned by local governments must be managed professionally so that they can transform and compete," said Pramono.
Pramono also encouraged the management of Bank Jakarta to prepare steps towards an initial public offering of shares or Initial Public Offering (IPO).
According to him, the IPO will strengthen the transparency, governance, and asset health of the bank because supervision is carried out publicly.
"I want Bank Jakarta to prepare for an IPO. That way, the bank will be healthier and no longer dependent on certain figures or interventions," he said.
Pramono highlighted the Transjakarta user base, which reaches around 1.4-1.5 million people per day, as a data and transaction strength that can increase Bank Jakarta's value in the eyes of investors.
The launch of the Visa Debit Card marks Bank Jakarta's readiness to compete as a modern bank that prioritizes professionalism, digitization, and financial inclusion, while remaining rooted in strengthening the economy of Jakarta and its people.
