SURABAYA - A total of 43,388 people have used train services in the KAI Daop 8 Surabaya area ahead of the end of the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru 2025/2026) holidays.

KAI Public Relations Manager Daop 8 Surabaya Mahendro Trang Bawono said the return flow of the Nataru holiday has begun to increase in recent days, as people return to their home cities to work and continue their daily activities.

"The number of customers using train services in the Surabaya Daop 8 area is still relatively high and is dominated by incoming passengers," said Mahendro, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, January 3.

Mahendro explained, based on provisional data as of Saturday (3/1) at 10.00 WIB, a total of 19,878 passengers were recorded to travel from Daop 8 Surabaya.

Meanwhile, he said, another 23,510 passengers were passengers who came at Daop 8 Surabaya, with an estimated number that would still increase until the evening.

"Cumulatively, during the period from December 18, 2025 to January 3, 2026, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya has served a total of 784,044 passengers, consisting of 403,999 departing passengers and 380,045 arriving passengers," he continued.

Meanwhile, during the Christmas and New Year Transportation period which took place on December 18, 2025 to January 4, 2026, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya projected to serve 825,022 passengers, with a breakdown of 422,355 people departing and 402,647 customers arriving.

In addition, the three stations with the highest passenger volume in the KAI Daop 8 Surabaya area during the Nataru period are Surabaya Gubeng Station, Surabaya Pasar Turi Station, and Malang Station, with a total movement of 627,383 passengers.

For departures, Surabaya Gubeng Station served 127,544 passengers, followed by Surabaya Pasar Turi Station with 122,444 passengers, and Malang Station with 76,551 passengers.

Meanwhile, for arrivals, each recorded 119,326 passengers at Surabaya Gubeng Station, 113,407 passengers at Surabaya Pasar Turi Station, and 68,111 passengers at Malang Station.

Mahendro added that the high movement from the three stations shows that trains are still the main choice of the public, especially for relations between Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Semarang and Ketapang.

On the other hand, his party ensured that the availability of train tickets before the end of the Nataru holiday period was still sufficient and urged customers to book tickets through the Access by KAI application.
