JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) revealed that the electricity had not been fully recovered in a number of Aceh areas after the flood and landslide disaster was not only due to network damage, but because the condition of the customer's house was still severely damaged and could not be safely electrified.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the restoration of the electricity system depends heavily on access to material evacuation. Areas with open access roads can be restored faster, while isolated areas take longer.

Based on PLN data, out of 23 districts and cities in Aceh, as many as 15 areas have recovered 100 percent from the perspective of villages that have been turned on again. However, there are still eight districts that have not reached full recovery.

The three areas with the lowest recovery rates are Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, and Gayo Lues. In Central Aceh, only 70.8 percent of villages have been reconnected to electricity. Bener Meriah recorded 83.6 percent of villages lit, while in Gayo Lues only 69.9 percent of villages recovered.

For Central Aceh and Bener Meriah, PLN still relies on the evacuation of materials through air using the Hercules aircraft. Meanwhile, in Gayo Lues, the land route has begun to open so that the delivery of 210 electricity poles can be carried out even though it is still hampered by landslides.

"For Central Aceh with Bener Meriah, the evacuation of 510 electricity poles we are still using Hercules and air," said Darmawan in a coordination meeting with the Post-disaster Recovery Task Force broadcast on YouTube DPR RI, Tuesday, December 30.

Even so, Darmawan revealed that the high percentage of villages that had been lit was not always in line with the condition of the customer's house. In some areas, the electricity network has actually recovered, but residents' houses cannot be turned on because they are severely damaged or still buried in mud.

For example, said Darmawan, in North Aceh, out of 850 villages, only two villages are still out. However, the number of PLN customer houses affected reached more than 80,000 units, with about 13,000 houses severely damaged.

"So for North Aceh Regency, the recovery of the electricity system is very high, but the impact of damage to customer houses is very high and this is the largest in all of Aceh," said Darmawan.

A similar condition also occurred in Aceh Tamiang. Of the 209 villages, continued Darmawan, only seven villages were still out, but the number of affected customer houses reached more than 38,000 units.

"Then also in Bireuen, it was a village that was lit from a total of 609 villages, 607 villages were lit, only two villages were extinguished, but the number of affected houses was more than 31,000 houses," he said.

Meanwhile, in Pidie Jaya, all villages have been reconnected to electricity, but more than 10,000 customer houses are still damaged and buried in mud so that PLN has not dared to turn on in order to avoid the risk of short circuits.

"So the village is already lit but the PLN customer houses are still buried in mud so we haven't dared to turn it on, because we can't, because it can be consoled later," he explained.

In addition to the recovery of household networks, PLN also prioritizes the restoration of electricity for public service facilities. Darmawan said that even though the electricity network is available, PLN still has to help clean and repair installations inside the buildings of hospitals, health centers, and mosques that are affected by mud.

"We have to blame the installation in the Regional General Hospital and Puskesmas to help clean the hospital. Because the installation in the Regional General Hospital and Puskesmas is still affected by mud," he said.
