JAKARTA - The global market is now beginning to implement a certificate of Cesium 137 (Cs-137) free of charge for fishery products other than shrimp from Indonesia. Regarding this, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has expressed its readiness to meet the market's demand.
Head of the Marine and Fisheries Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency (Badan Mutu KKP) Ishartini said that his party had received reports from business actors in Indonesia regarding the request of buyers abroad regarding certification of Cs-137-free for non-shrimp fishery commodities.
"And this is a voluntary or voluntary market demand," said Ishartini in an official statement, Monday, December 29.
Several Indonesian non-shrimp fishery products requested certification for Cs-137 free by buyers include dried salted fish, shrimp crackers and shrimp paste, which are exported by one of the Fish Processing Units (UPI) in Cirebon to the United States (US), Canada and Australia.
According to Ishartini, the certification of Cs-137-free fishery products actually only applies to shrimp commodities and specifically those exported to the US from UPI in Java and Lampung in accordance with Import Alert #99-52.
"But if there are buyers abroad who require Cs-137-free, we are ready to do it as long as there is a request from the exporter," he said.
Ishartini also did not deny the existence of various questions from other competent authorities of other countries such as Japan, the European Union, Malaysia, Cambodia, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and South Korea regarding the implementation of Cs-137-free certification on fishery products, including similar requests from buyers in Puerto Rico.
"Meanwhile, Indonesian business actors are trying to meet the demands of their business partners as a form of caution and an effort to maintain the trust of the international market," he said.
He assessed that, in principle, his party was ready to monitor the quality and safety of fishery products and would always encourage ease of doing business, especially exports.
"Moreover, we have adequate capacity and competence in terms of Cs-137-free certification, both human resources, facilities and infrastructure, and synergy with related agencies, such as Bapeten, BRIN and Gegana Polri," he added.
