JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs has accelerated the completion of the construction of the Wanam Port in South Papua Province as an effort to strengthen national connectivity and logistics resilience.
This step was marked by the signing of a contract for the procurement of goods resulting from the construction of the Wanam Port until it was 100 percent completed, which was held at the Ministry of Transportation Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 23.
Director General of Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Masyhud, emphasized that Wanam Port has a strategic role as a main logistics node in supporting the National Food, Energy, and Water Self-sufficiency Area in South Papua.
"Wanam Port is not just an infrastructure project, but a long-term investment by the state to strengthen national food, energy, and water security, as well as to promote economic growth and the welfare of the people of South Papua," Masyhud said in a statement, Tuesday, December 23.
Masyhud explained that the signing of the contract was an important part to ensure that all stages of the construction of the Wanam Port could be completed thoroughly. Until December 12, 2025, the physical progress of the Wanam Port construction on the sea side has reached 87.39 percent.
In order to complete the work to 100 percent, the Directorate General of Maritime Transportation made a direct appointment to PT Dua Samudera Perkasa as the executor of the work, in accordance with the provisions of Presidential Regulation Number 46 of 2025 concerning changes to Presidential Regulation Number 16 of 2018 concerning Government Goods/Services Procurement.
On this occasion, Masyhud also emphasized the importance of carrying out work that prioritizes the principles of accountability and quality, so that port development can provide maximum benefits.
"I hope that the entire process of implementing this contract is carried out with the principles of quality, time, and cost, as well as upholding transparency and accountability in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations," he said.
Furthermore, Masyhud conveyed the acceleration of the development of the Wanam Port in line with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita, especially regarding the food self-sufficiency agenda.
On the other hand, this project is also part of the effort to equalize national development, especially in the eastern part of Indonesia and the leading, outermost, and lagging regions (3T).
With the accelerated completion of the Wanam Port construction, the government hopes that maritime connectivity in South Papua will be stronger, logistics distribution will be more efficient, and will be able to provide a real impact for the local community and national development in a sustainable manner.
"The Ministry of Transportation is committed to continuing to support the acceleration of the development of marine transportation infrastructure to realize an Indonesia that is connected, sovereign, and competitive," he said.
