JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) Sudaryono ensures that the stock and price of live cattle at the producer level remains under control ahead of Christmas and New Year 2025/2026.

Sudaryono in the 3rd National Working Meeting of the Indonesian Cattle and Fattening Association (APPSI) in Bogor, as stated in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 22, confirmed that the price of cattle in the farmer's barn is currently monitored to be below the reference limit that has been set by the government.

"Current stocks are sufficient and prices at the producer level are Rp52 thousand to Rp53 thousand per kg of body weight. Lower than the reference price," said Wamentan.

He said that based on the National Food Agency Regulation Number 12 of 2024, the reference purchase price (HAP) for live cattle at the producer level has been determined, namely Rp56,000 to Rp58,000 per kilogram of body weight.

Sudaryono explained that price stability was supported by the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program, which was a market guarantee for livestock products, thus providing business certainty for farmers.

"MBG is a guarantee. In the past, people kept dairy cows, some of whom still have not absorbed their milk. Now MBG is all a grab, there is no dairy farmer whose milk will not be absorbed," he said again.

Sudaryono also asked APPSI to play an active role as a strategic partner of the government in realizing food self-sufficiency, especially beef.

"We want APPSI to be the eyes, ears and mouthpiece of the government. Say the good, report the bad, we will solve it," said Sudaryono.

He emphasized the importance of rapid reporting from associations when there are production disruptions, animal diseases, or trade problems in the field. With this pattern of communication, the government hopes that the problems faced by farmers can be responded to more quickly and accurately.

The General Chair of APPSI who is also the Chairman of the MPR RI, Ahmad Muzani, conveyed that the association's closeness with the Ministry of Agriculture has provided many tangible benefits for farmers.

He gave an example of various APPSI activities in the region that were able to attract the attention of the government, provide assistance, and improve the status of farmers through cattle contests and various other supporting programs.

Muzani highlighted the potential for the development of dairy cattle and poultry within the framework of the MBG program, because it provides certainty for off-takers while opening up more promising business opportunities for domestic farmers.
