JAKARTA - The Indonesian aviation and tourism BUMN holding company, PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (Persero) or InJourney, has deployed a humanitarian team consisting of InJourney Group employees to help in flood control in Sumatra, including in Pasar Meureudu, Pidie Jaya Regency, Nangroe Aceh Darussalam, by distributing direct assistance to affected residents. InJourney Group moved quickly to distribute assistance since the end of November and continues to this day.

InJourney provides logistical assistance according to the needs of refugees, including 2,000 watt generators, emergency lights, mattresses, blankets, children's and adult clothing, food items, and light medicines. All assistance is collected based on field data collection since the first day after the disaster to support the evacuation process and ensure that the assistance provided is targeted and really needed by the refugees.

Through the flagship program InJourney Community Care, assistance is distributed to 30 affected points in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. More than 90 volunteers from InJourney Airports and InJourney Hospitality were deployed from the beginning to support the evacuation with TNI-Polri, BNPB, and Basarnas, as well as conducting data collection on the needs of refugees. InJourney Group distributed assistance worth IDR 1.7 billion which was realized in logistics packages and trauma healing services at all disaster posts.

The volunteers involved are not only from the Aceh, Kualanamu, and Padang Branch Offices, but also from Jakarta and other areas. They went directly to the field to accelerate the evacuation of residents and the distribution of logistics to the main posts, taking into account the level of damage and the accessibility of the affected locations.

"The assistance provided by InJourney Group is a joint action from all InJourney entities and subsidiaries supported by all stakeholders involved so that distribution can be implemented quickly, accurately, and well coordinated so that the benefits can be felt by the affected community. Although this assistance will not be comparable to the material losses and psychological trauma experienced, we hope that this assistance can ease the burden of the refugees," explained InJourney's President Director, Maya Watono, in her statement, Thursday, December 18.

Ruslan Hasan, a resident of Pasar Meureudu, Pidie Jaya, revealed that the presence of logistical and psychological assistance provided by InJourney was very helpful for residents around Pasar Meureudu. "The assistance provided by InJourney has helped us refugees here. Hopefully there will be no subsequent floods due to our location which is indeed on the banks of the Meureudu River," said Ruslan while showing the condition of his house and the surrounding area which had been submerged in mud and could not be used again.

Vovo Kristanto, one of the volunteers who works as an Aviation Security Chief at Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, Banda Aceh, revealed that the terrain traversed during the initial evacuation process was very challenging and quite difficult to pass by vehicle, so they had to walk for 45 minutes to reach the location to set up a post because of the many damaged access while carrying primary logistical assistance that is very necessary by the victims.

"Dayah Husen village in Pidie Jaya became the initial location of the evacuation we carried out. The conditions on the ground at that time were quite heavy, with access damaged due to mud, bridges broken, and limited internet connections which made it difficult for the distribution process. The distance from the main road to the location also took about 45 minutes. In the initial stage, we prioritized the delivery of the most urgent logistics needs, while conducting data collection to ensure that the next distribution of assistance can run more accurately," said Vovo.

In addition to logistical assistance, InJourney Care also conducts trauma healing or Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) especially for children who are also victims. Their playing and learning spaces, which are now affected by flash floods, are one of the concerns in terms of reviving their spirits. Not only that, health services are also provided in cooperation with medical personnel. From reports in the field it was found that respiratory tract infections and skin and fungal infections were the most common complaints experienced by refugees.

"Our focus in the field is not only on the distribution of logistics for the refugees, but trauma healing (Psychosocial Support Services) especially for small children as well as health post services which are also our main concern. We do this based on the disaster study which we have done several times before. It is very important to keep maintaining the growth and development of children, especially for those who are victims of natural disasters," continued Vovo.
