JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) held an audience with fishermen who are members of the Pantura Fishermen Movement, today.

During the forum, fishermen conveyed various problems that are still faced in the field, ranging from security at sea, completeness of ship documents, use of environmentally friendly fishing gear to the distribution and supervision of fuel oil (BBM).

The Chairman of the Pantura Fishermen Movement, Kajidin, assessed that fishermen have been actively supporting government policies.

Fishermen, he said, obey the rules, pay taxes and PNBP, but still often face problems when operating at sea.

"We hope that the KKP policy will really protect fishermen. If there are deficiencies in documents, they should be resolved on land, not become a problem when we are already at sea," said Kajidin, quoted Wednesday, December 17.

Juana's representative, Purnomo, also highlighted the need for clarity in the policy of inspecting ships at sea so that fishermen have legal certainty and comfort in their work.

According to him, there is still a misunderstanding in the field regarding documentation and supervision.

Responding to this, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said that his party continued to improve policies to be more in favor of fishermen. He ensured that the supervision carried out was not to complicate, but to provide legal certainty and maintain the sustainability of fish resources.

"The fishermen's complaints are not with PSDKP (Directorate General of Marine Resources and Fisheries). We will coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that the supervision policy runs in harmony and does not cause misunderstandings," he said.

He explained that one of the policies taken was a change in the non-tax state revenue (PNBP) scheme for fisheries from the pre-production system to the post-production system. With this scheme, fishermen can go to sea first, then the PNBP obligation is calculated based on the catch.

"We want fishermen to focus on the sea. How much can we count together. This is part of efforts to ease the burden on fishermen," he explained.

Trenggono emphasized that environmentally friendly fishing gear policies and fuel regulations were also implemented to maintain the sea as a source of livelihood for fishermen in the long term.

He ensured that every input from fishermen would be recorded and followed up.

"We want fishermen to be hosts in their own country. All KKP policies are directed towards this, including the development of the Red and White Fishermen's Village," he said.

In addition, the KKP also encourages the implementation of catch-and-release fishing to reduce pressure in certain fishing areas and prevent conflicts between fishermen.

"This policy is expected to make fishermen not need to go too far, so that operational costs are more efficient," he added.
