JAKARTA - PT Trans Indonesia Superkoridor (TIS) again strengthens its role in the development of national digital infrastructure through the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the development of the Jakarta-Manado submarine cable route as part of TGCS Phase 2.

Previously, TIS built the TGCS Phase 1 subsea cable connecting Jakarta-Batam as one of the strategic DC-to-DC interconnection routes, and now continues its expansion to the eastern region of Indonesia to increase the capacity, resilience, and reach of the national subsea cable network.

The rapid growth of data centers in Jakarta, Batam, and Surabaya, as well as the great potential in Makassar and Manado, makes the need for high-capacity connectivity with low latency increasingly urgent. DC-to-DC interconnection is a critical element to ensure the availability of cloud services, hyperscale, and digital services throughout Indonesia.

In this context, subsea cable networks have an important role in telecommunication systems. Relative to terrestrial infrastructure, undersea cables carry 99% of the world's data traffic. In addition, subsea cables can serve as a protection path for terrestrial networks, thus ensuring service continuity in the event of an interruption in the terrestrial network.

The development of the Jakarta-Manado route through TGCS Phase 2 confirms TIS' commitment to building an increasingly strong, reliable, and ready Indonesian telecommunications backbone to support national digital transformation.

"We want to ensure that TIS not only follows, but leads the growth of Indonesia's digital needs," said Revolin Simulsyah, President Director of TIS, quoted on Monday, December 15.

Through the signing of this LOI, TIS is taking a strategic step to strengthen Indonesia's position as one of the most important digital hubs in the Asia Pacific region.
