Minister Of Public Works Accelerates Post-Disaster Handling Of Three Provinces In Sumatra

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo accelerated post-disaster management in three provinces of Sumatra.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Public Works had moved quickly to make emergency response efforts and post-disaster recovery in the three affected provinces.

"The Ministry of Public Works has deployed a total of 310 personnel in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, consisting of elements of Water Resources, Highways, and Cipta Karya. Personnel have responded quickly, inspected the affected infrastructure, and supported the regional emergency handling command," said Dody in his statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Friday, December 12.

In addition, the Ministry of Public Works has also deployed 298 units of heavy equipment (excavators, loaders, and others), 121 units of supporting equipment (public hydrants, operational cars, dump trucks, water tankers, and others), as well as 3,727 units of emergency materials (geobags, wire gabions, aggregates, and others) to all affected locations in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"The heavy equipment is used to clean landslides, restore river flow, repair damaged road bodies, and install a bailey bridge to reopen inter-regional connectivity," said Dody.

He also said that as of December 10, 2025 at 22.00 WIB, 1,355 disaster-affected points had been recorded in three provinces, with damage including floods, landslides, broken bridges, broken embankments, and national roads that could not be passed.

"Kerusakan infrastruktur bina marga tercatat pada 76 ruas jalan nasional sepanjang 2,058 km dan 31 jembatan nasional sepanjang 2,537 m, serta 108 ruas jalan daerah dan 49 jembatan daerah," katanya.

In the water resource sector, the Ministry of Public Works identified damage to 127 rivers, 13 dams, 4 irrigation networks, 1 embankment, 3 checkdams, 2 jetty piers and 11 raw water facilities. With an irrigation area and a dam that is the national authority of more than 3,000 hectares (ha).

"Meanwhile, for the Cipta Karya sector, there are 85 Affected Drinking Water Supply Systems (SPAM) and Water Processing Installations (IPA) as well as 143 affected community-based infrastructure locations. Quite a lot of basic community facilities are affected, therefore we will continue to accelerate emergency handling," said Dody.

Damage also occurs in strategic infrastructure infrastructure such as schools, markets, Islamic boarding schools, health facilities, and houses of worship.

A total of 973 schools, 562 madrasas, 53 markets, 212 Islamic boarding schools, 308 health facilities, 29 offices and 360 houses of worship were recorded to have been damaged in all affected areas.

Minister Dody said that until December 10, 2025, the Ministry of Public Works had optimized the budget needs for disaster management in the three provinces, which reached Rp. 51.82 trillion. The budget consists of Rp. 2.72 trillion for emergency response and Rp. 49.10 trillion for rehabilitation and reconstruction.

He also expressed his appreciation for the cross-ministerial and local government support. The Ministry of Public Works will continue to coordinate with all relevant parties, because post-disaster recovery cannot be done alone.

"It takes synergy to ensure that people return to access basic services and safe mobility," said Dody.
