2.62 Million People Choose Sea Transportation In Nataru, Minister Of Transportation: Ship Ramp Check Must Be Tightened

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi asked all levels of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation to carry out inspections of ship marine completeness and tighten ramp checks during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) holidays.

Dudy also instructed that ships that are not good at sailing, as well as monitoring the cargo and coordination of the BMKG must be carried out in real-time.

According to Dudy, this step is important considering that as many as 2.62 million people will travel by sea transportation in it.

"Laut will never compromise. So the human beings must be disciplined. I instruct all ranks of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation to carry out shipworthiness checks, conducting ramp checks must be tightened and comprehensive," said Dudy, quoted from the Ministry of Transportation's Instagram @Kemenhub151, Monday, December 8.

Previously, as many as 119.5 million people were predicted to travel, both outside and within the province, during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) holidays.

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said the prediction was based on a survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency of the Ministry of Transportation in collaboration with BPS, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, and Academics.

"According to a survey of 42.01 percent of Indonesia's population or around 119.5 million people have the potential to travel, during the Christmas and New Year 2025/2026 holiday," Dudy said at a media briefing in Jakarta, Friday, December 5.

Based on the survey, continued Dudy, there was a trend of increasing the potential for national community movement during the Nataru Transport period by 2.71 percent, from 39.30 percent last year to 42.01 percent.

Dudy said the increasing public interest in traveling during the 2025/2026 Nataru period was caused by several factors, one of which was a long holiday time. Because, school holidays coincide with Nataru.

Regarding the selection of transportation modes, Dudy said that the use of private cars was the largest according to survey results, the figure reached 42.78 percent or 51.12 million people.

The next most mode is a motorcycle of 18.41 percent or 22.00 million people, a bus of 8.17 percent or 9.76 million people, a rental car of 7.43 percent or 8.87 million people, a travel car of 6.39 percent or 7.64 million people, "he said.

Meanwhile, continued Dudy, aircraft are predicted to account for 3.57 percent or 4.27 million people. Meanwhile, long-distance trains amounted to 3.29 percent or 3.94 million people.

"The ferry ship is 3.14 percent or 3.75 million people, ships are 2.20 percent or 2.62 million people," he said.

The Ministry of Transportation also predicts that the peak flow of homecoming during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru) holidays will occur on D-5 or Saturday, December 20 and D-2 Christmas or Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

Based on the results of a survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency, on December 20, 2025, it is predicted that there will be 11.83 million people. Then, the movement sloped and rose again on D-1 Christmas or December 24, 2025, with an estimated movement of 17.18 million people.
