JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo emphasized that global economic uncertainty is still at a high level.

Meanwhile, this was conveyed at the 2025 Bank Indonesia (PTBI) Annual Meeting which was also attended by President Prabowo Subianto.

"Mr. President and the audience, the uncertainty of the world is still high," Perry said at the PTBI 2025 event, Friday, November 28.

According to Perry, the uncertainty in the direction of the world economy so far has been largely influenced by the increasing protectionist policies of major countries, including the United States.

"The policy of protecting the United States brings major changes to the world's economic landscape. Political tensions continue and we don't know when it will end. It is important to be vigilant, as suggested by Ronggowarsito. The global economic outlook will still fade in 2026 and 2027 with 5 characteristics," he explained.

He added that first, the continuation of the United States tariff policy suppressed global trade, eroded multilateralism, and triggered the rise of bilateral and regional cooperation.

Next second, the slowdown in world economic growth, especially in the US and China, while the European Union, India and Indonesia still show positive performance.

"The slow decline in inflation complicates the monetary policy of the Central Bank," he said.

He added that the high debt and interest rates in developed countries due to the large fiscal deficit also burdened developing countries.

Perry said the increase in risks in the global financial system was due to soaring derivative transactions, especially by hedge funds with trading machines, pushing capital flows out and suppressing exchange rates in developing markets.

"Fifth, the rise of crypto money and stable coins from the private sector. There is no clear regulation and supervision here is the need for a central bank digital currency. Fifth, the global turmoil has a negative impact on various countries," he explained.

According to him, Indonesia needs to respond with the right policy to maintain stability, as well as encourage stronger, resilient, and independent growth.
