DGT Successfully Collects IDR 11.48 Trillion From 200 Tax Arrears

The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) of the Ministry of Finance has managed to collect Rp11.48 trillion from 200 in arrears of taxpayers.

As for the end of the year, the government targets total revenues to reach IDR 20 trillion from the total liabilities of IDR 60 trillion

The Director General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance, Bimo Wijayanto, explained that this amount showed a significant increase compared to the previous achievement which had only touched IDR 8 trillion.

"The latest data per day yesterday, from our target until December of around Rp. 20 trillion, we have been able to collect from 200 taxpayers who made the biggest arrears of around Rp. 11,487 trillion," he said at a press conference on the KITA State Budget, Thursday, November 20.

He expressed optimism that the number will continue to grow until the end of the year and several tax arrears have committed to paying off their obligations.

"We are still going to continue to update this, of course and especially for the inkracht (permanent legal force), the commitment to payment has also been submitted to us," he explained.

Previously, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadive said that until now the government had only managed to collect around Rp. 8 trillion from 200 taxpayer evaders.

According to Purbaya, the collection process was slow because tax arrears were unable to pay off their obligations directly and had to pay through an installment scheme.

"It can't be done right away, there are all kinds of installments. Until now, it has only been priced at IDR 8 trillion. Most of them are still paying installments and some are still being chased," he said in a media briefing, Friday, November 14.

However, Purbaya is optimistic that the total arrears of Rp. 60 trillion can be paid in full.

"Most likely billed, they shouldn't mess with us," he said.
