JAKARTA – Bank Jakarta is strengthening its economic role in sustainable development through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which includes the construction of a communal septic tank installation utilizing biogas (biodigester) in Pekayon, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta.

This program is a collaboration between Bank Jakarta, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Jakarta, and the Jakarta Provincial Government.

This initiative not only supports the acceleration of the Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) and Open Defecation-Free (ODF) program targets, but also provides a direct economic impact for the community through the use of biogas as an alternative energy source.

The facility's inauguration coincided with the 61st National Health Day (HKN) on Thursday, November 13, 2025, and was attended by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, government officials, and Bank Jakarta management.

With CSR funding support, this biodigester installation utilizes the anaerobic fermentation process of domestic waste to produce biogas that can be used by residents for cooking and other energy needs.

This technology is expected to reduce household expenses while providing a more hygienic sanitation solution.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung welcomed the initiative and assessed that the implementation of biodigesters has real economic value.

"We want to develop an ecosystem like this on a larger scale. This system is very economically beneficial," he said. He emphasized that this sanitation technology contributes to strengthening Jakarta's position as a healthier and more modern global city.

Bank Jakarta President Director Agus H. Widodo stated that this program is part of the company's commitment to supporting the local government's agenda while improving the community's quality of life.

"Through this CSR program, we hope the community will experience the direct benefits of adequate sanitation facilities, while also optimizing the use of renewable energy from domestic waste," Agus said.

This biodigester program aligns with Bank Jakarta's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities.

Bank Jakarta Corporate Secretary Arie Rinaldi added that this environmentally-based initiative will continue to be expanded to strengthen the company's social contribution.

"Bank Jakarta will continue to expand its social contributions through various environmental and empowerment programs. We hope this synergy will strengthen Bank Jakarta's image as a regional financial institution that cares about sustainability," Arie said.

This communal biodigester program is expected to become a model for modern sanitation management that is not only environmentally friendly but also provides added economic value for the people of Jakarta.
