PLN EPI Launches Biomass Marketplace For Cofiring PLTU

PT PLN Energi Primary Indonesia (PLN EPI) has released a biomass marketplace application to strengthen the supply of cofiring of power plants starting from PLTU Adipala with a capacity of 660 Megawatts (MW).

This platform connects Farmers/Groups, BUMDes, Cooperatives, and aggregators with the need for power generation fuel in a measured manner ranging from volume, quality, to logistics.

PT PLN (Persero) Generation Management Director Rizal Calvary Marimbo emphasized that cofiring is an important bridge to decarbonization of existing plants.

The key is in supply certainty, quality standardization, and logistics efficiency. With marketplaces, quality mismatches can be suppressed, local participation increases, and power generation operations become more reliable in supporting emission reduction and encouraging the circular economy at the grassroots level," he said, Wednesday, November 12.

Meanwhile, on the Hulu Pasokan side, Director of Biomass of PLN EPI Hokkop Situngkir explained, this platform has a core feature in the form of supplier registration, price/volume offers, quality gates in hubs, as well as tracking shipments to the revenue process at the generator.

This digital scheme is prepared for replication in other generators in the PLN network.

Through the hub-sub hub-main hub scheme, supply is more transparent and standard. Not all biological materials are fit for fuel, therefore quality criteria are uniformed to approach coal specifications, so that the generating capacity factor is maintained," he explained.

The inaugural implementation at PLTU Adipala targets a more stable supply of cofiring. Director of Operations for the Indonesian Coal Plant, Power Hanafi Nur Rifa'i, said that digitalization is not just an effort to increase operational efficiency, but also a strategic step to build a more inclusive energy ecosystem.

"Through this transformation, we are committed so that the energy transition will also have a positive economic impact on the community around the generating area. With supercritical technology and the application of cofiring, PLTU Adipala is ready to meet the Net Zero target," he said.

In addition to playing a role in suppressing carbon emissions, this program is also a lever for the local economy.

Farmers, BUMDes, and biomass MSMEs now have more transparent market access and payment certainty through the digital end-to-end process.

Ke depan, Hanafi memastikan PLN EPI akan memperluas pengembangan tanaman energi, mengintegrasikan data mutu/volume lintas hub, serta memperkuat kapasitas agregator agar suplai biomassa semakin kompetitif dan bankable.

"Langkah ini menjadi bukti semangat kepahlawanan kini hadir dalam bentuk baru bukan lagi dengan senjata, melainkan dengan inovasi energi bersih yang menyalakan masa depan bangsa," tandas dia.

In the future, Hanafi ensures that PLN EPI will expand the development of energy plants, integrate quality/volume data across hubs, and strengthen aggregator capacity so that the supply of biomass is more competitive and bankable.

"This step is proof of the spirit of heroism, now it is present in a new form, not with weapons, but with clean energy innovation that ignites the nation's future," he said.
