JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has completed the arrangement of the Medan Belawan Phase II area in North Sumatra in November 2025.
The scope of work includes the construction of regional gates and signs; bridge railing work; construction of a Reduce-Reuse-Recycle Waste Processing Site (TPS 3R); Belawan Bahari roads and drainage; as well as wastewater management facilities ( bioseptic tanks).
Then, the installation of fire hydrants; cleaning up garbage in residential halls; road and drainage improvement in the Bagan Deli area; public street lighting (PJU); as well as construction of toilets and clean water facilities in the neighborhood of Belawan Bahari.
This activity continued Phase I, which had previously been completed by the arrangement of the Belawan Bahari area through the construction of environmental roads; drainage; public open space; drinking water facilities; fish drying area; as well as normalization of channels and cleaning waste.
With the completion of Phase II, the Belawan area has now turned into a habitable environment, has a better drainage system, adequate sanitation facilities and supports the economic activities of coastal communities.
PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said Belawan has great potential, but also a big challenge because its location lies between the mouth of the Belawan River and the Deli River.
"Therefore, the arrangement of this area is very important so that residents can live in a more appropriate, healthy and productive environment," said Dody in an official statement quoted on Wednesday, November 12.
