JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) said that Fish Processing Units (UPI) or companies throughout Java and Lampung are required to have a Cesium-137 (Cs-137) free certification to support Indonesia's shrimp exports to the United States (US).
This is due to the existence of Indonesian shrimp products belonging to PT Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS Food) in the Cikande industrial area, Banten, which was exposed to Cesium-137 (Cs-137) radioactive substances when entering the US.
Head of the Marine and Fishery Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency (BPPMHKP) Ishartini conveyed this at a press conference at the KKP office, Jakarta, Thursday, November 6.
Ishartini explained that the two islands were included in the FDA yellow list list and were required to meet additional requirements in the form of Cesium-137 (Cs-137) free certification.
"Yellow list is a company that currently specializes in exporting shrimp domiciled in Java and in Lampung. It is affected by the yellow list. This means that he is only subject to additional requirements, namely a radioactive free certificate issued by the KKP," said Ishartini.
"There are also requirements for Certifying Entity (CE) issued by the KKP," he continued.

According to Ishartini, his party received the assignment directly from the FDA to control special supervision of shrimp products originating from Java and Lampung.
"And all UPIs are committed to implementing the required provisions," he said.
However, Ishartini said that his party would propose to the FDA to revoke the yellow list list of the two regions, provided that Indonesia had implemented its system properly.
"Later the FDA will see if our system is good, our system is strong, he (FDA) will come to inspect here and later we can propose the yellow list to be revoked, yes," he concluded.
