JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) said that the 2025 Regional Road Inpres (IJD) program had absorbed tens of thousands of workers. From the two existing stages, the absorption reached more than 22,000 people.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said, in addition to the absorption of the existing workforce, the IJD also had an impact on the regional economy.

"The IJD program not only improves roads, but also opens new economic access. Stable road infrastructure will facilitate the distribution of agricultural products, accelerate logistics mobility and grow new economic centers in the regions," said Dody in his official statement, quoted Monday, November 3.

For absorption, in stage 1 of the IJD, there were 234 activities with a total length of 711.02 kilometers (km) of roads and 148.42 meters of bridges. This stage absorbs about 14,333 local workers.

Meanwhile, for the IJD phase 2, there are 93 activities covering 567.73 km of roads and 6.8 meters of bridges. From that stage, 8,562 local workers were absorbed.

The figure is if the number reaches 22,895 workers.

The program is an effort to support food and energy self-sufficiency. This is in accordance with the existing basis, namely Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 11 of 2025 concerning Accelerating the Increase in Regional Road Connectivity to Support Food and Energy Swasembada.

"The Presidential Instruction of Regional Roads is in accordance with the direction of the President to focus on supporting food security. So, the thematics this year are more or less food security," he said.

In addition, IJD can also reduce road availability backlogs in Indonesia. Dody said that currently the national road safety rate has reached 95.22 percent. Meanwhile, the level of regional roads, both provincial and district/city, has only reached 69.64 percent.

Dengan IJD, pemerintah bisa mengurangi percakapan antara tingkat kemanterapan jalan nasional dengan jalan daerah.

"The government is committed to reducing this gap by directing more than 70 percent to support national food areas, while the rest is focused on developing the tourism, industrial and transmigration sectors," he concluded.
