Airlangga Meets US Representatives, Discusses Investment To Small-Scale Nuclear Technology

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto held a meeting with the United States Under Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Environmental Growth, Jacob Helberg.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit which was held in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

During the meeting, Airlangga and Jacob Helberg discussed various developments and efforts in the development of economic cooperation between the two countries, developments in tariff negotiations, Strategic Trade Management, especially related to Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS), and plans for the Southeast Asia Forum on Export Control (SEAFEC) event in 2026.

In addition, both of them also discussed developments from various US investments in Indonesia and developments from the digital economy, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data centers.

Airlangga said that Indonesia continues to open opportunities for United States investors in strategic sectors, such as purification projects (refinery) for nickel and other critical minerals, high-tech development such as High-end Semiconductor, Tech Talent Development, Artificial Intelligence, Data Center, renewable energy, and exploring the construction of small-scale nuclear power plants (Small Modular Reactor).

The partnership between Indonesia and the US continues to develop in the spirit of mutual respect and benefit the economy of the two countries. We see many concrete opportunities to work together, especially in strengthening economic resilience, encouraging energy transition, and developing inclusive and sustainable technology," said Airlangga in an official statement, Sunday, October 26.

Airlangga assessed that the relationship between Indonesia and the United States is currently at a very positive level, and is an important momentum to continue to strengthen economic, trade and investment cooperation that is mutually beneficial to the two countries.

In addition to discussing opportunities for economic and energy cooperation, Airlangga also said that Indonesia is considering hosting the 2026 SEAFEC, an international forum that focuses on strengthening its strategic trading system and monitoring exports in the Southeast Asia region.

Closing the meeting, Airlangga emphasized Indonesia's commitment to deepening economic relations with the United States.

"Indonesia continues to strengthen economic cooperation with the United States, especially in creating strong supply chains, sustainable investments, and inclusive economic development," he said.
