JAKARTA - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadive again conducted a surprise inspection at the Head Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) to assess the supervisory system at the institution.
From the visit, Purbaya said that monitoring at the port and on border patrol ships had not been integrated with adequate technology.
"We saw the Customs and Excise monitoring system there, which went to the port and went to other places. I also had discussions with or called with Customs and Excise people on the ship near Batam there. There were no problems, I just want to see how sophisticated Customs is," he told the media crew, Wednesday, October 22.
Purbaya stated that the inspection was part of an effort to overcome the under-invoiting practice that President Prabowo Subianto often criticized for causing a potential leak of state revenue.
According to him, the current condition is quite good, but it is not yet possible to monitor in real-time ship activities that have the potential to carry out under-invoiting.
He added that the main cause is the lack of adequate artificial intelligence (AI) development.
For this reason, Purbaya emphasized that in the next three months DJBC will focus on developing a stronger detection and surveillance system, including the implementation of connected AI.
He added that this is a continuation of the development of LNSW by forming a trading think tank consisting of 10 experts from various fields to analyze trade leakage in strengthening LNSW, Customs and Excise, and Taxes.
"So we will strengthen it, Taxes will also be the same later, basically we will strengthen our revenue system from end to end monitoring," he said.

"In the future, from the command center, I hope you can see what the ship is doing at the port, what it contains, what it is. So we will build a system that is really connected there later," he added.
Purbaya said that in the next three months the AI developed will be able to start analyzing. However, for a truly integrated system so that it can see the ship's activities at the port directly, the target is about a year.
"But what is clear is that in the next few months the acceptance of Customs and Excise should be more efficient than now," he said.
