JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia admitted that he had obtained President Prabowo Subianto's approval to encourage the mandatory ethanol program of 10 percent in gasoline.
"Yesterday night we had a meeting with the President. The President has agreed to plan a mandatory 10 percent ethanol," Bahlil said in a statement.
For this reason, Bahlil emphasized that in the future the government will encourage the use of ethanol by 10 percent.
He explained that the purpose of this program was to suppress imports of gasoline and boost the use of clean energy which was more environmentally friendly.
"So that we don't import a lot and also to make clean oil. Those who are environmentally friendly," Bahlil explained.
Bahlil said that currently his party is still calculating the economy and technical matters related to E10.
He estimates it will only take effect two to 3 years from now.
"E10 is still under discussion and we are still testing it first. It has been declared clear, it is good, then we will run it," continued Bahlil.
