Profile Alexander Tedja is a property entrepreneur who is nicknamed the king of Indonesian malls. Through Pakuwon Group, Alex develops retail, residential, offices, and hotels in big cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Bali.

Before being known as a property entrepreneur, Alexander Tedja started his career as a businessman in the film and cinema sectors. To launch his business, he built PT ISAE FIILM in 1972, PT Pan Asiatic Film in tajun 1991, and PT Menara Mitra Cinema Corp in 1977.

After his business developed, he began expanding into other sectors. In 1982, Alexander Tedja founded PT Pakuwon Jati Tbk because he wanted to expand to the property and mall sectors.

Pakuwon's first project was to build Plaza Tunjungan I. The shopping center, which operated in 1986, was built on a plot of land on Jalan Basuki Rahmat, Surabaya.

Since the first project went smoothly, Alex was trusted to work on other projects. Through PT Pakuwon Jati Tbk, Alexander Tedja built Plaza Tunjungan II and III, the Sheraton Surabaya Hotel & Tower hotel, Menara Mandiri, Kondominium Regensi to Plaza Tunjungan IV. Everything operated almost simultaneously in 2002. This project later became the forerunner of the first superblock in the city of Surabaya, namely Tunjungan City superblock.

Alexander Tedja became President Director of Pakuwon Jati in 1989-1998 and served as President Commissioner of Pakuwon Jati since 19998.

On October 9, 1989, PT Pakuwon Jati TBK for the first time took the floor on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) with the code PWON. The presence of PWON in the capital market is not surprising, because this company has succeeded in working on strategic projects in Surabaya.

In 1994, Alex expanded Pakuwon's market share by developing a residential area in Surabaya, namely Pakuwon City.

Not only that, in 2007, Pakuwon expanded its wings to Jakarta. Alex's company acquired 83.3 percent of PT Artistan Wahyu's shares, superblock developer Gandaria City, Jakarta.

Next, Pakuwon Group is also working on the Kota Kasablanka project which is located in the Golden Triangle area of Jakarta, Kuningan, and includes a business center aka Central Business Distric (CBD) Jakarta.

Furthermore, Pakuwon also built a multifunctional property on an area of 4.2 hectares in the TB Simatupang corridor, South Jakarta.

Even though it has grown rapidly in Jakarta, Pakuwon has not stopped working on the project in Surabaya. Through its subsidiary, PT Pakuwon Permai, this company developed the Supermal Pakuwon Indah superblock and the Royal Plaza mall. Meanwhile, in Jakarta, Pakuwon built a shopping center for Blok M Plaza and a Somerset Berlian service apartment.

After successfully developing Pakuwon Group, in 2022, Forbes magazine included Alexander Tedja in the list of 50 Richest People in Indonesia. His total wealth is estimated at 1.1 billion US dollars or around Rp. 16.5 trillion.
