JAKARTA - The results of a survey by the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) show that there has been a decrease in consumer confidence in the condition of the Indonesian economy.
This is reflected in the LPS Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) which reached the level of 90.5 in September 2025 or 3.5 points lower than in the previous month.
"Consumers face an increase in basic food prices and difficult job conditions, thus contributing to the decline in IKK last September," said LPS Research Group Director Seto Wardono, quoted Friday, October 3.
He continued, the decline in IKK was also influenced by several other factors, such as crop failure and expensive fertilizer prices.
Extreme weather that is still hitting a number of areas, both in the form of high rainfall and drought.
"This causes concerns about the risk of crop failure," he continued.
Seto explained, IKK shows consumer perceptions of economic conditions, employment and household income.
The IKK level above 100 shows that consumers are more optimistic about economic conditions in general, regional economies, current job conditions, and their prospects in the next six months.
Meanwhile, the results of the LPS Consumer and Economic Survey (SKP) in September 2025, still show consumer optimism in view of its economic prospects, employment, and income in the future.
This is reflected in the Expectation Index (IE) which is still above 100, or was at the level of 109.0 that month, although it decreased by 2.0 points from the position in August 2025.
In the same period, the Current Situation Index (ISSI) decreased 5.4 points to 65.8, reflecting the weakening of consumer perceptions in assessing the current local economic and employment conditions.
Meanwhile, the Consumer Saving Index (IMK) in September 2025 was at the level of 77.3, slightly decreased by 1.6 points from the position of the previous month. This is in line with the weakening of the Savings Intensity Index (IIM) in the same period, which was 3.6 points to the level of 67.1. Meanwhile, the Saving Time Index (IWM) component was recorded to have slightly increased, which was 0.4 points to the level of 87.4.
Regarding the IWM component, the percentage of respondents who assessed that the current time was the right time to save was recorded to increase to 26.1 percent in September 2025 from 24.5 percent in August 2025.
In addition, the percentage of respondents who stated that the next three months was the right time to save was recorded to increase, reaching 35.8 percent from 31.6 percent in the same period.
This development reflects the sloping intensity of consumer savings in line with the increasing household spending on education in the new academic year. However, the intention of saving consumers is still maintained, both for now and for the next three months, "explained Seto.
