Rupiah Weakens To Rp16,749 Per US Dollar, Minister Of Industry: That's Temporary

TANGERANG - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita responded that the rupiah exchange rate moved lower against the United States (US) dollar on Thursday, September 25, 2025 trading.

As for citing Bloomberg, on Thursday, September 25, 2025, the rupiah spot exchange rate closed down 0.39 percent to the level of Rp. 16,749 per US dollar.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) exchange rate of Bank Indonesia (BI) closed down 0.43 percent to a price level of IDR 16,752 per US dollar.

Agus said this was only temporary. "Oh, that's temporary," said Agus briefly when met by reporters at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten, Thursday, September 25.

Previously, the President Commissioner of HFX International Futures Sutopo Widodo said that for Thursday, September 25, 2025, the movement of the rupiah exchange rate would still face a number of challenges.

He assessed that the market focus is expected to be focused on the release of PCE Price Index data from the US which is a major indicator of inflation and an important reference for the Federal Reserve (The Fed) interest rate policy.

"If this data shows inflation remains high, the expectations of the Fed's reduction in interest rates will decrease, potentially strengthening the dollar and pressing the rupiah further. However, if the data is surprising with a lower number, the rupiah can get little room to breathe," he told VOI, Thursday, September 25.

Sutopo added, in a situation like this, consistent intervention from Bank Indonesia (BI) is expected to remain an important factor in maintaining market stability, containing volatility and preventing too sharp rupiah from weakening.

Taking into account various global and domestic complex sentiments, said Sutopo, the movement of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar on Thursday, September 25, will move in the range of Rp. 16,650 per US dollar to Rp. 16,750 per US dollar.

According to him, the movement really depends on how the market responds to US inflation data as well as the monetary policy taken next.
