JAKARTA - President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk Military Commander Tsani left for the United States (US) to carry out further negotiations related to the planned purchase of Boeing aircraft.
Director of the Garuda Indonesia Commercial, Reza Aulia Hakim, revealed that the departure of the Military Commander also coincided with President Prabowo's visit to the US.
"Our President Director today accompanied the President of the Republic of Indonesia on his visit to the US to conduct further discussions regarding the plan to procure a fleet from Boeing," he said in a Hearing Meeting with Commission VI of the DPR, in Jakarta, Monday, September 22.
Reza said that the Garuda Indonesia meeting with Boeing also aims to ensure that the purchase of the aircraft provides optimal benefits both strategically, operationally, and financially.
"In the future, we will also continue to explore cooperation with aircraft manufacturers to add long-term aircraft fleets so that Garuda Indonesia can get confirmation of the number of aircraft and of course a more competitive price," he explained.
Garuda Looking For Funding To Buy 50 Boeing Aircraft
PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (GIAA) confirmed that it is communicating with a number of potential funders to support the plan to purchase 50 Boeing aircraft.
The management of Garuda Indonesia explained that the purchase of this aircraft was part of the company's long-term transformation to strengthen the fleet and flight networks served.
"The plane purchase plan is one of the long-term strategic steps in efforts to restore the Company through business transformation by strengthening the fleet and optimizing the flight network for the next five years," wrote Garuda Indonesia Management in the information disclosure of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), Tuesday, July 22.
Management also admits that it has established communication with Boeing. One of the things discussed regarding the specifications of the fleet is in accordance with the company's market share, including the time of the delivery of the aircraft.
"We can say that until now, the Company and Boeing are conducting intensive communication to discuss the details of the fleet needs that are in accordance with the Company's market share," the management wrote.
In his statement, management emphasized that the continuation of this project also took into account Boeing's readiness to prepare the type of aircraft needed.

Purchase Of Boeing Plane Is A Requirement For Trump's Negotiation Agreement
In July 2025, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that the plan to purchase 50 Boeing aircraft was part of the negotiation of the reciprocal rate with the US.
Currently, the reciprocal tariff imposed by the US Government, Donald Trump, to Indonesia, has shrunk from the previous 32 percent to 19 percent.
Airlangga explained that currently the process of purchasing aircraft is still in the process of negotiating business to business between Boeing and Garuda Indonesia.
"The Garuda aircraft is in the process of negotiating business between Boeing and Garuda. So we will wait for further developments technically later," Airlangga said at a press conference, Monday, July 21.
