JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate in trading Monday, September 22, 2025, is estimated to have the potential to weaken against the United States (US) dollar.
To note, citing Bloomberg, on Friday, September 19, 2025, the rupiah spot exchange rate closed down 0.45 percent to the level of Rp. 16,601 per US dollar. Meanwhile, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) exchange rate of Bank Indonesia (BI) closed down 0.49 percent to a price level of Rp. 16,578 per US dollar.
Doo Financial Futures analyst Lukman Leong said that the rupiah exchange rate is expected to weaken against the US dollar.
In addition, he assessed that this weakening was driven by the strengthening of the US dollar, following the less dovish attitude of the Fed after the FOMC meeting.
"Rupiah is expected to be under pressure by the rebound in the US dollar from the lack of dovish the Fed's post-FOMC attitude," he told VOI, Monday, September 22.
Lukman said that the US dollar also received support from the unemployment claim data which was lower than expected.
Meanwhile, he said that pressure on the rupiah also came from the government's expansionary economic policy and concerns about the potential for a budget deficit to also put pressure on the rupiah.

However, Lukman said there was potential that Bank Indonesia would be more active in intervening in the market.
"The government's expansionary economic policy and the concern of the budget deficit are still pressing the rupiah. However, there is the potential for BI to actively intervene," he said.
Lukman projects that the movement of the rupiah on Monday, September 22, will move in the range of Rp. 16,450 per US dollar to Rp. 16,600 per US dollar.
