The Ministry Of Public Works Will Immediately Repair The Damaged South Sulawesi And Makassar DPRD Buildings Due To The Demo

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has accelerated the completion of the repair of the South Sulawesi Provincial DPRD Building (Sulsel) which was damaged by the chaos during the demonstration on August 30, 2025.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said the central government through the Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of Public Works had conducted a survey and initial assessment of building conditions to determine rehabilitation and reconstruction steps according to the level of damage.

"According to President Prabowo's direction, the Ministry of Public Works will complete it as a form of the government's commitment to supporting the recovery of public infrastructure functions," said Dody in a written statement, quoted Wednesday, September 17.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Human Settlements at the Ministry of Public Works, Dewi Chomistriana, explained that the handling of building damage would be carried out based on the results of a technical study of the condition of the building structure by the Directorate of Building Engineering and Environmental Restructuring (BTBPL).

"If the building structure is still declared strong, the handling will be focused on rehabilitation. However, if the results of the examination show that the structure is no longer feasible, reconstruction or rebuilding must be carried out," he said.

Based on the results of a survey by the Center for Building Planning, Infrastructure and Areas (BPBPK) of South Sulawesi, the Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of Public Works, the damaged Makassar City DPRD building is a 4-story main office with an area of 5,481 square meters and a 3-story right wing building covering an area of 9.42 square meters. All affected buildings are classified according to the category of damage.

"From the results of the preliminary study of the building with minor damage to the right-wing building, we will prioritize it to be rehabilitated in 2025. It is hoped that by the end of 2025 it will be completed and early 2026 it can be utilized," he explained.

For part of the main office of the Makassar City DPRD Building to be categorized as heavily damaged, an in-depth building structure will be carried out so that the handling is carried out on target.

It is known that the damage to the Makassar City DPRD Building includes a 4-story main office covering an area of 6,696 square meters; 10-story tower office with an area of 2,514 square meters; a 2-story secretariat building covering an area of 595 square meters; a 2-story household subdivision building on 162 square meters; 1-story honorary body building covering an area of 95 square meters; 1-story electric warehouse building covering an area of 102 square meters; 160 square meter canteen; 2-story aspiration building covering an area of 171 square meters; and a 45 square meter guard post.

According to Dewi, the 10-story tower office building in the category of lightly damaged can be rehabilitated by 2025 and can be temporarily utilized for activities of members of the South Sulawesi Provincial DPRD.

"Mengingat, bangunan DPRD terdampak masuk dalam perlindungan asuransi," pungkasnya.

In addition, said Dewi, for heavily category damaged buildings, it is necessary to reconstruct or rebuild buildings through administrative mechanisms according to the provisions, such as removing assets first before reconstructing and transparency in the use of costs.

"Considering that the DPRD building is affected by insurance protection," he concluded.
