JAKARTA - Technology company Baker Hughes announced that it has signed a long-term service contract with British Petroleum (bp) to support the operation of the Tangguh Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant in West Papua.

The 90-month agreement covers spare parts, repair services, and field engineering support for the facility's critical turbomachinery equipment.

The equipment includes powerful gas turbines, steam turbines, and compressors for three LNG units, ensuring reliable and sustainable operations.

This agreement strengthens Baker Hughes' long-standing relationship with bp on the Tangguh LNG project, which began in 2009.

Most recently, in 2024, Baker Hughes also secured a contract to supply additional critical power and compression systems for the Tangguh UCC Project, a large-scale carbon capture, utilization, and storage project at Tangguh, led by bp.

The Tangguh LNG facility is a key pillar of Indonesia's energy strategy, playing a vital role in providing secure and reliable energy in the Asia-Pacific region.

Baker Hughes' continued support will contribute to the continued performance and availability of the plant's key turbomachinery equipment, a vital component of LNG operations.

"This long-term service agreement with bp for the Tangguh LNG project demonstrates our commitment to strengthening our partnership and driving energy development in Indonesia," said Tiffany Pitts, Vice President of Gas Technology Services at Baker Hughes, in a statement on Tuesday, August 26.

Baker Hughes is collaborating with PT Imeco Inter Sarana as the local consortium partner to meet the local content requirements of the agreement.

This agreement reflects Baker Hughes' strategic focus on strengthening its position in the Liquefied Natural Gas sector through critical equipment asset management services.

This move also aligns with the company's recent announcement to expand its existing service capabilities in the Asia Pacific region to address the needs of expansion and the energy transition in the region.
