JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has accelerated the completion of the 1C Phase of the People's School (SR) development as part of the first phase of the program. This effort aims to ensure that educational facilities can be used at the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year.
The SR program is part of the government's efforts to provide access to free and quality education for children from extreme poor and poor families, according to the direction of President Prabowo Subianto.
PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said the construction of the People's School was a tangible form of the government's commitment to building superior human resources.
"Collaborating with the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Public Works wants to ensure that this educational facility is built quickly and with quality so that it can be immediately used in the 2025/2026 school year," said Dody in a written statement, Saturday, August 23.
He explained that phase 1 of the construction of the People's School is divided into three parts. Phase 1A as many as 63 locations have been operating since July 14, 2025, followed by Phase 1B with 37 locations starting functionally on July 31, 2025.
Meanwhile, Phase 1C covers 65 locations that are currently being accelerated. Thus, the total development in Phase 1 reached 165 People's Schools.
Of the 65 Phase 1C locations, 63 were built with the support of the State Budget and two other locations using the APBD. Overall, Phase 1C prepares 248 study groups with a capacity of 6,190 students, covering elementary, junior high to high school levels.
Dody said that the implementation of the 1C Phase SR construction went according to plan and showed significant progress.
"In terms of implementation of construction, physical progress shows positive achievements. It is targeted that the 1C Phase SR can operate in early September 2025," he said.
According to Dody, several SR locations have even reached more than 90 percent progress, such as BLK Subulussalam, BLK Bireuen and the Ex-SMP Unggul Building in Pidie Jaya, Aceh.
The scope of work at Phase 1C includes light to moderate renovations. Including, classroom repairs; dormitory; laboratory; administrative space; painting of buildings; installation of electrical and water installations; as well as procurement of furniture.
"The People's School program is expected to become an important pillar in equitable education as well as poverty alleviation," added Dody.
