Collaborating With UGM, PTBA Coal Conjured To Kalium Humat From Downstreaming Coal

JAKARTA - PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM) launched a pilot project for the production of potassium Humat, as a stage of research and development.

The President Director of PTBA, Arsal Ismail explained, this aims to support the government's program towards national food self-sufficiency. Just so you know, potassium humat is a derivative product of low-calorie coal downstream that functions as a repairer of land and biological fertilizer.

Later, PTBA will use the name BA Grow as a commercialized potassium Humat product brand. BA Grow, which will be marketed, will consist of solid and liquid forms. Coal is now not only for energy, but can also be processed into products that are directly beneficial for the community, especially farmers.

"This initiative proves that coal can be processed into value-added products that are environmentally friendly and provide real benefits, especially for farmers," said Arsal, quoted on Friday, August 22.

Director of Downstreaming and Diversification of PTBA Products, Turino Yulianto, also emphasized that downstreaming is a commitment that will continue to be carried out by the company.

"Kalium humat is proof of our offering to the country to provide energy without stopping," he explained.

Turino added, as a repairer of soil and biological fertilizer, potassium humate is able to improve soil fertility and increase agricultural and plantation productivity.

The use of potassium humate can also reduce the dependence of farmers on chemical fertilizers. Based on the initial trial results, potassium humate is able to increase yields by up to 30 percent, maintain long-term soil fertility, and save up to 50 percent of fertilizer use. Potassium humat products were born from research and development collaborations carried out by PTBA and UGM to increase added value of coal, in line with the downstream mandate launched by the Government.
