JAKARTA - MSME Minister Maman Abdurrahman emphasized that micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) focus on supplying products to meet large domestic needs with market potential covering more than 280 million people and not only pursuing exports to foreign markets.
According to Maman, MSMEs have proven to be the driving force as well as the backbone of the national economy. Therefore, increasing the capacity and competitiveness of MSMEs is something that needs to be improved.
"One of the things that is encouraged is the increase in the export of MSME products and the fulfillment of domestic needs," said Maman, Tuesday, August 19.
Maman said, many MSME entrepreneurs set a target to be able to market their products abroad. However, the domestic needs of more than 280 million Indonesians must also be a priority that needs to be met by MSMEs.
Not only that, he revealed, the Ministry of MSMEs is following up on the problem of imported products flooding the national market. This protection effort is the main focus to secure the growth of MSMEs.
"Exports are one of the MSME targets, but also remember the domestic market so we don't forget it," said Maman.
Maman stated that there are several efforts that can be made so that MSME entrepreneurs are able to play a bigger role in driving the national economy.
According to him, MSMEs must be able to enter the modern retail ecosystem and digital platforms to expand their markets and ensure their business. This can be fulfilled if the products produced are innovative and according to market standards. MSME entrepreneurs must also have good business literacy, technology control, and business management.
In addition, he said, MSME entrepreneurs must be able to obtain access facilities for capital and credit guarantees. The government has supported this by distributing as much as Rp132.7 trillion of People's Business Credit (KUR) to more than 2.29 million debtors until the first half of 2025.
The provision of business legality is also something that needs to be considered. As of June 30, 2025, the Ministry of MSMEs has assisted in the issuance of 1.44 million Business Identification Numbers (NIB), 2.34 million halal certificates, as well as the ratification of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) Bina UMK and SNI for millions of MSME entrepreneurs.

"The acceleration of the granting of licensing certification to MSMEs is aimed at increasing competitiveness so that MSMEs can grow and can compete with products from outside," said Maman.
He added that involvement in the Free Nutrition Food (MBG) program also helped grow the business of MSME entrepreneurs. This is because many MSMEs throughout Indonesia are involved as suppliers of the needs of thousands of MBG public kitchens.
In order to achieve the commitment of MSMEs to advance to class, Maman invites all relevant agencies to collaborate to grow the people's economy and find the best solution for the needs of Indonesian MSMEs.
"Hopefully this collaboration can contribute to Indonesia's economic growth, which is targeted by the President to reach eight percent," said Maman.
