JAKARTA - PTPN III (Persero) Subholding, PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV PalmCo supports PSSI again holding the 2025 Independence Cup, after being 'vacuum' for almost the last 3 decades in 2008.

The state-owned plantation company became one of the main sponsors of the age group football match which took place in North Sumatra on August 12, 2025 yesterday.

"Thank you to PSSI for inviting us to bring back the tournament that used to be our common pride at every moment of Indonesian independence day," said President Director of PTPN IV PalmCo, Jatmiko Santosa, Tuesday, August 19.

According to Jatmiko, this Independence Cup is not only a football tournament held by PSSI in enlivening the Birthday of the Republic of Indonesia, but also a prestigious event for the development of young national football athletes.

There are four national teams of age groups participating in the competition, namely Indonesia U-17, Tajikistan U-17, Mali U-17, and Uzbekistan U-17. In this event, Indonesia managed to become runners up after having to admit Mali's superiority in the final with a score of 1-2 for the U-17 Mali.

"Congratulations to the U-17 national team! We are sure that this achievement will not relax but will motivate our friends to win in the future," said Jatmiko.

Jatmiko said PalmCo's support for the Independence Cup was a continuation of the company's consistency in coaching young athletes. Since its inception, PalmCo has been active in forming and activating Football Schools (SSB) in various work units to attract talented seeds.

In fact, said Jatmiko, PTPN has a professional club PS PTPN III (Regional I) which is currently competing in Liga 3 Indonesia. "For an early age, the Company is building a football school in Regional III Riau which collaborates with the famous coach Indra Syafri in honing local talent," he said.

In addition, Jatmiko explained, PTPN IV PalmCo also utilized the holding of the Independence Cup to introduce superior products of pride in North Sumatra. Through a special booth, PalmCo presents Teh Butong and Teh Tobasari, two of the best quality tea brands from North Sumatra that have just been named the best tea at the 2025 National Tea Competition (NTC).

Previously, the Minister of SOEs and Chairman of PSSI Erick Thohir also appreciated the involvement of SOEs in supporting the sports sector. According to him, corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds are not only directed at the education, environmental, and MSME sectors, but also to support sports that are a means of unifying the nation.

"We form CSR focusing on education, the environment, and MSMEs. But I also encourage these SOEs to contribute to a social event, namely sports," said Erick.

For information, the 2025 Independence Cup is the 10th edition since the first time this tournament was held in 1985. The football tournament organized by PSSI to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia was held again after 17 years of vacuum, where the last match was held in 2008 and Indonesia managed to become the champion.

This event is also a step in preparation for the Indonesian U-17 national team ahead of preparations for the 2025 U-17 World Cup in Qatar later.
