Wamenaker Finds Years Of Internship Practices In Cikarang

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Manpower, Immanuel Ebenezer, revealed that he found a prolonged internship practice that did not comply with the provisions. This was found by Noel, Immanuel's nickname, during a surprise inspection (sidak) to PT Global Dimension Metalindo in the Cikarang Industrial Estate, Bekasi Regency.

During the review, Wamenaker found that there were workers who had internship status for two to nine years without certainty of work.

"This practice should not happen again. PT Global Dimension Metalindo has committed to ending the prolonged internship system," Noel said in a statement to the media, quoted on Saturday, August 16.

He also emphasized that all forms of levies on job seekers are criminal acts, and asked the public to report if they found the practice. According to him, the state is here to protect the workforce.

According to Wamenaker, the issue of the involvement of third parties or foundations is not the main focus, but protection of workers' rights.

Many of them do not get rights such as BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. Manpower protection is mandatory and must be given starting today," he added.

Wamenaker emphasized that similar problems did not only occur in Cikarang, but also in various regions in Indonesia. He assessed that workers' rights should not be ignored throughout Indonesia's jurisdiction and emphasized that the state will foster companies as long as they are committed to improving themselves.

He stated that the management representative of PT Global Dimensional Metalindo admitted that there was an error in managing worker status and promised to improve the employment system in the company according to government directives.
