PTPP Plants 2,500 Karang Reef Seeds In Banyuwangi

JAKARTA - PT PP (Persero) Tbk (PTPP), a national construction and investment company under the auspices of Danantara Indonesia, shows its concern for environmental sustainability through the planting of 2,500 coral seedlings at Grand Watu Dodol, Bangsring Beach, Banyuwangi, East Java.

This conservation program was carried out with seven other state-owned companies PT Adhi Karya, PT Hutama Karya, PERURI, PT Wijaya Karya, PT Waskita Karya, BNI, and Brantas Abipraya with the support of the East Java Maritime and Fisheries Service, BP3 Banyuwangi, Forkopimda Wongsorejo District, as well as a local coastal community group. The growing coral seeds of Acropora Tenuis and Montipora are expected to restore marine biodiversity while improving the welfare of coastal communities.

"Business sustainability can only run if it is in line with environmental sustainability. Through this conservation program, we are trying to restore the function of the damaged marine ecosystem as well as provide direct benefits for fishermen and the surrounding community," said PTPP Corporate Secretary, Joko Raharjo, in a written statement, Friday, August 15.

Joko added that this program is in line with PTPP's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Quality Education, No Credit, and Partnership for the Goals.

"Implanting coral reefs is expected to be a sustainable solution to maintain Indonesia's marine wealth and prevent any damage that has occurred due to the practice of fishing that is not environmentally friendly," he explained.

This step also emphasizes the consistency of PTPP in applying Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Not only building national infrastructure, this effort is also a tangible form of PTPP in maintaining natural and social balance as part of the company's responsibility for future generations (sustainability) and running sustainability programs evenly in various coastal areas of the country.
